Have You Been Daignosed With a Herniated Disc?

The following is an email I got today and I wanted you to see my response...

*********EMail*************

i recently had two open mri done on my cervical area and lumbar area. on the cervical area , i was told that i have two herniated disc and then in the lumbar area i have two bulging discs. With the herniated disc area I have a very severe burning between my shoulder blades daily and I use frequently a heating pack and use once a day avinza morphine-90mg and it does not even touch the pain at all. I go to Physical Therapy also, do daily therapy excercises , yet I am not getting no relief. I have an appt with a neuro surgeon in about 1 week appx. I have copies of all xrays, other open mri done in past, plus two current ones that I am taking to his office for him to review.

I am scared to death of having an operation on my back due to being stuck in a wheel chair possibly or not being able to walk properly also, anything is possibly when it comes to operating on the back. I also have degenerative arthritis of the lower back too.

I have daily numbing of both hands, fingers, pain shooting down legs daily and once in a while a numbness in one of my feet too.

I am just scared of what to do anymore. I had surgery on my left knee back when i was in military and they messed the operation up real bad and caused a lot of other problems, cause of their screw up it has caused secondary problems. I can also manually move my knee cap laterally all the way to the side of leg whenever I want too, that is how loose it is. And , due to the knee condition I have had to adjust my walking gait accordingly and I think that is where my inbalance comes into play too.

Do, you have anytype of advice to offer me at this time at all ?

thanking you in advance,

joseph

p.s. I am only 47yrs old also.

Joseph, I don't blame you, Surgery is not always the answer in fact if you ask me its the last thing in the world I would do...

I will just out line my thoughts for you...

That doesn't sound too dissimilar to my symptons, although I am not yet suffering from any numbness in my legs or arms. Certainlly the majority of pain is between the shoulder blades. Sometimes I get pain through my arms, legs and belly. I also get twitching in other muscles, like on the outside of my eye and quads.

My next course of action - aftyer trying the LTBP system, compression and inversion, will be triggerpoint therapy and massage to try and loosen up the muscles in my upper back. I think untill these release I am not going to get to far with the LTBP stretches and exercise, but I will persist in strenthening and stretching.

All I want is a couple of pain free days so I can try and relax my body and mind and hopefully turn a corner.

i have had a dick fusion in my c6-c7 level it was a little over a year ago now it did help the pain and i didnt have the numbness or tingling in my fingers it did hhurt a bit after surgery afor about 2 weeks but it got better i understand you had bad experiance with surgery in the past abd there are alot of risk you need to educate yourself on but if you have to get surgery then do it but try all other options first use it as a last resort
